Twenty minutes from the La Ceiba airport is the small rural beach community of El Porvenir.  This is not an area created for tourists, however Porvenir beach is one of the favorites for vacationing local Hondurans.

The rural ambiance of the mixed Spanish neighborhood is flavored by children on horseback, the sight of sheep, cows, or horses grazing the road side; while fruit, vegetable, or hammock vendors walk the streets selling their wares. It’s a page out of the 1950’s. OM-Porvenir is the real Honduras served ‘gringo’ style.

Your hosts are Ordin and Malana Ashlie, the setting is the home storied in the award winning book  “Gringos in Paradise: Our Honduras Odyssey.”
